OpenIdle Launch Post

What is OpenIdle? And why is it the meme game we need right now?

Today OpenIdle is out on the internet. It's available on the GooglePlay Store already, and it's currently in TestFlight for iOS. Which is a first for me, personally, but it's also the first AI Lab meme game that has been released. Probably. As far as I know at least.

The premise is simple. I wanted to make a game that made fun of how AI Labs are currently operating. It also served as a really fun workspace for me as a developer to use agentic tooling to build a modular game engine/platform, with shared component primitives so that I could deploy to web, android, and iOS all in one go. Make one balance change on one platform, and it immediately ships to all 3. I learned a lot making this!

But also, this honestly helped me kind of release the stress valve that is watching the current tech industry circle the AI psychosis drain, and this was a way where I could make a little light of the situation while also creating a game that isn't entirely innacurate to how some of these things really work. Obviously this is not a full simulator game, and I abstracted a lot of real-world nuance and interactions into simple game mechanics that serve an incremental style game... but there are real things in here that mirror how some of this actually works at a high level. If some of this feels silly, you might be surprised to learn just how real tech companies actually work!

So let's talk about it. Let's try to have some fun with this, while we do.
